Bedside imaging skills for fast-moving acute care

Critical care ultrasound training for clinicians in Karachi

A regional chapter for physicians who want practical, repeatable POCUS skills for respiratory emergencies, undifferentiated shock, focused cardiac assessment and bedside abdominal evaluation.

Multi-disciplinary instructorsLearn from complementary critical-care and acute-care perspectives
Multiple simulated patientsRepeat scanning across varied windows and patient profiles
Multiple ultrasound machinesBuild confidence with different controls, presets and systems
Scenario-based applicationConnect image findings with immediate bedside decisions
A genuinely hands-on learning environment

Built for repeated practice, not passive observation

Participants rotate through practical stations designed to increase exposure, repetition and confidence under direct supervision.

Multi-disciplinary instructors

Receive guidance from instructors representing complementary clinical disciplines, helping you understand how POCUS findings are applied across ICU, anaesthesia, emergency and medical practice.

Practice on multiple simulated patients

Repeat the same core views on multiple simulated patients so you can adapt probe position and scanning technique to different acoustic windows and patient profiles.

Practice using multiple ultrasound machines

Work with multiple ultrasound machines to become familiar with different interfaces, controls, presets and image-optimisation workflows.

Regional chapter

A focused POCUS platform for Karachi and Sindh

The Karachi Chapter delivers a hands-on learning pathway for acute-care clinicians who need to translate ultrasound images into timely management decisions. Sessions prioritise supervised scanning, image optimisation and scenario-based integration rather than lecture-heavy instruction.

  • Structured training built around real clinical questions
  • Direct feedback on probe position, depth, gain and view acquisition
  • A regional pathway for continued POCUS development
  • Access to national POCUS.pk workshops, faculty and learning resources
Chapter purpose

Learn locally. Apply immediately.

The chapter is intended as a regional base for workshops, clinician engagement, future specialty modules and multidisciplinary POCUS education across Karachi and Sindh.

Core clinical curriculum

Build a repeatable bedside ultrasound approach

The workshop concentrates on four practical domains that support rapid assessment in intensive, emergency and peri-operative care.

Lung ultrasound

Apply the BLUE protocol and recognise patterns relevant to pneumothorax, pleural fluid, consolidation and interstitial syndrome.

Hemodynamics and IVC

Locate the IVC, measure its diameter and variability, and integrate findings into volume-status and fluid-responsiveness assessment.

Focused echocardiography

Acquire PLAX, PSAX, apical four-chamber and subcostal views for rapid evaluation of global cardiac function and pericardial fluid.

Focused abdominal scan

Use a systematic bedside survey to identify free fluid and support time-sensitive abdominal and trauma assessment.

Learning format

Designed to turn knowledge into probe confidence

The learning sequence moves from image acquisition to interpretation and then to action. Each stage is tied to a practical bedside question.

Orient and optimise

Understand probe orientation, machine controls, depth and gain before acquiring target views.

Scan with supervision

Practice view acquisition on simulated patients while instructors correct technique in real time.

Interpret clinical patterns

Connect ultrasound signs with respiratory failure, shock, volume status and focused cardiac assessment.

Apply through scenarios

Use structured case questions to decide what the scan means and how it should influence immediate management.

Frequently asked questions

Before you register

Do I need previous ultrasound experience?

No. The foundational workshop begins with probe orientation, basic machine controls and image optimisation before progressing to the core lung, IVC, cardiac and abdominal views.

Is this a practical workshop or mainly lectures?

The training is scenario based and hands on. The design prioritises supervised scanning and repeated view acquisition so participants spend meaningful time using the probe.

How do I claim a group discount?

Contact the academy coordinator on WhatsApp before checkout. A group of 3 receives 15% off, while a group of 5 receives 25% off.

Will the training cover full formal echocardiography?

No. The workshop focuses on essential bedside cardiac windows and rapid clinical assessment. It does not replace comprehensive echocardiography performed by appropriately trained specialists.

How can I confirm certificate and verification details?

Contact POCUS.pk before registration for the certificate arrangements applicable to the selected batch. The academy also maintains an online certificate-verification pathway.
